Grenada. According to countryaah, the current population of Grenada is 112,534. The referendum on changes in the country’s constitution that was announced until October was postponed. In a press release, the Government pointed out that the public interest in the proposed constitutional amendments had grown and that the population should therefore be given more time to familiarize themselves with the issues in question before being forced to take a position in a referendum.

The government was supported for its actions by the committee tasked with drawing up the proposals. The referendum, the country’s first, was finally held at the end of November. According to thereligionfaqs, voters had to decide on seven proposals, including changing the country’s official name to Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique. It was further proposed that the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) should replace the Privy Council of the United Kingdom as the country’s highest court, that a new electoral commission should be established and that a prime minister should only be able to sit for three terms. The proposals also included extended fundamental freedoms and rights. None of the proposals were approved in the referendum.

In the months of June-July, Prime Minister Keith Mitchell carried out a major reform of government where several of the ministers were given new responsibilities. One reason was that the ministry responsible for, among other things, agriculture, fisheries and the environment was considered to face particularly major challenges. In addition, Mitchell explained that ministers who worked for a long time in a single area needed to broaden their experience.
